Earn Points: How to change your wallet connection to Lava

Tutorials/Guides

Introduction

As we progress towards Mainnet, we are introducing points on Lava - Phase Magma.

Anyone can now earn points for changing their blockchain connection to Lava in their wallets. The blockchains which users are initially eligible to earn points for are Ethereum, NEAR, Starknet, Evmos and Axelar.

You can access Magma with any wallet but users who connect through our Wallet Partners - Sender Wallet and Leap Wallet - get bonus points - use invite codes LEAP1 and KEPLR.

To get started earning points, all you need to do is replace the RPC URL in your wallet with the RPC URL endpoint provided in your Lava points account.

Video tutorials - only for some chains/wallets

Community member - Anton C.Sailors has filmed these video tutorials for some wallets.

Rabby Wallet - Ethereum: https://youtu.be/Set_0TDH-VA?si=wzjWRZ4I_gnn2_PO
Metamask - Evmos: https://youtu.be/zSsNODVlvKA?si=VlM72U1ghByaol_c
Keplr - Axelar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2v9CYCkzyY
Leap - Axelar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VrXfgwqCu0

If you do not see a tutorial for a specific chain, written guides are available below.

More video guides will be produced soon.

Changing your RPC connection in Ethereum wallets

Example: Metamask

  • Open your settings and go to Networks
  • Open your settings and go to Networks
  • Ignore the existing Ethereum Mainnet network and click Add new Network
  • Click add network manually
  • Copy your Ethereum Mainnet endpoint from your Magma Points dashboard (we will likely add testnet endpoint in the future, and you will need to manualy create a new network on Metamask for that too)
  • Paste the endpoint into your Metamask and add the following details

Network Name = Lava Ethereum [whatever you want to name it]

New RPC URL = [the endpoint in your Lava dashboard]

Chain ID = 1 [Do not worry if it says the Chain ID is currently being used by Mainnet]

Currency Symbol = ETH

  • Switch to your newly Lava Ethereum connection and use your wallet as normal to start earning points

Example: Rainbow

This example is for Rainbow, a popular wallet for Ethereum.

  • Open your settings and go to Networks
  • Click Ethereum (not "add custom network")
  • Click add RPC endpoint
  • Go to Lava points dashboard and copy the Ethereum endpoint
  • Paste the RPC endpoint into Rainbow with these details. You can call Network Name whatever you want
  • Click add network and click the newly created RPC endpoint, making sure it says "Active"
  • Press confirm and you can use like wallet like normal to earn points!

Changing your RPC connection in Cosmos wallets - Axelar and Evmos

NOTE: We have paused points on Evmos temporarily due to a spike in spam and botting.

Example: Leap wallet

Let’s take an example of Leap Wallet for Axelar

  • Copy your Axelar Mainnet RPC and LCD endpoints from your Lava dashboard
  • Open your wallet, go to settingsCustom endpoints
  • Search for Axelar
  • Replace the RPC and LCD endpoints with the Axelar Mainnet endpoints from your Lava dashboard
  • Use your wallet as normal on Axelar mainnet to earn points

Example: Keplr Wallet

NOTE: We have paused points on Evmos temporarily due to a spike in spam and botting.

Let’s take an example of Keplr Wallet for Evmos and Axelar

  • Open your wallet, go to settingsAdvanced
  • Click change endpoints and select Evmos or Axelar
  • Replace the default RPC url in Leap with the Lava-powered RPC.
  • Click confirm and you're good to go! Use your wallet as normal to earn points - check balance, make transactions, access web3.

Changing your RPC connection in NEAR wallets

Example: Sender Wallet

Connect to blockchains through Lava to sart earning points - it's simple.
Every time you open or use your wallet e.g. by checking your balance, making transactions, interacting with dapps - your wallet is making an RPC call.

Let’s take an example of Sender Wallet on NEAR.

  • Open your wallet, go to settingsNode RPC
  • Click on NEAR Mainnet
  • Open your wallet, go to settingsNode RPC
  • Go to Lava points dashboard and copy the NEAR endpoint
  • Click the + button and paste the NEAR RPC URL into your wallet
  • Press confirm and you can use like wallet like normal to earn points!

Starknet wallets (coming soon)

Argent and Braavos do not currently support Custom RPC endpoints. We will update the community when this is available.

Is this safe?

Lava coordinates a decentralized network of RPC node runners which means there is no single point of failure. Your connection to the blockchain via Lava is much more resilient than other providers, who have previously experienced DNS hijacking and extensive downtime.

Changing your wallet RPC endpoint does not give Lava wallet or transaction signing permissions, and Lava cannot steal your funds by you simply changing your RPC endpoint. All funds remain on the blockchain - Lava is simple the means by which your wallet will retrieve the data to show your balance.

As always, please be careful when interacting with any web3 project and we invite you to explore all resources explaining how Lava works before taking part in Magma.

Keep up with the latest on Lava Network

Mainnet is coming in early 2024, bringing us closer to Lava's vision of a scalable, modular data layer for web3. We welcome all feedback and participation to help battle-test the network.

Thank you for taking part in the Lava journey.
